Matthias Ernst Leitner

Matthias Ernst LEITNER has over 20 years’ experience in international peace and security, mainly in UN peace operations and political affairs as well as in multi-donor project management. He is currently serving with UNHCR in Addis Ababa, as an advisor for Risk Management. Also, Matthias has also served with regional security organizations (OSCE, IGAD) in several world regions including Africa to achieve the SDGs and the peace and development nexus. His professional focus is in national dialogues, mediation/negotiation and executive planning, coordination and project management/M& in fragile and post-conflict states. Mr. Leitner has held senior management positions with Special Envoy Offices, and is proficient in monitoring systems, RBB and integrated planning and accountability frameworks. He has handled complex budget envelopes up to 40 million USD and is proficient in UN reforms, the peacebuilding architecture and innovative development financing and technical assistance. His academic background from Bonn and Oxford Universities in languages and history.
